Bernadette Hopkins was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1959 and since 1981, has lived in Milan, Dublin and Co. Donegal. She studied Fine Art and Painting in Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design after working as a specialist nurse in Haemo-dialysis and Transplantation. Her interest in the human form and embodiment has inspired much of her paintings, drawings, prints and performance art. She has a keen interest in political science and trained and worked with Canadian director Kathleen McCreery in Brechtian Political Theatre.
Bernadette has exhibited in Ireland, Italy and New York and since 2014 collaborates with two other artists, Áilbhe Hines and Áodan McCardle, as Cuislí Performance Art. She was a founding member of ‘Art of Resistance Collective’, raising awareness of human rights issues through multi-disciplinary art forms and has curated film, performance, music and visual art. She lives and works from her studio in Milford, Co.Donegal, Ireland and is presently completing a MA in Social Practice Art in Limerick School of Art and Design.
