The Irish Traveller Movement has undertaken a number of initiatives to create a greater understanding and acceptance of Traveller culture in society where Travellers are able to express who they are without fear of discrimination from settled or Traveller community- including looking at diversity within the community. These events and discussions take place over the course of the year, but there is specific focus on events for Traveller Pride Week.
The Hunt Museum is hosting two events this year as part of the Traveller Pride Week:
- Tuesday June 6th, 1pm:
Selected glass artworks from the HOME exhibition will be on display. These were created by 13 Limerick City Traveller women who worked with glass artist Róisín de Buitléar. Come along and hear their experience of this project. HOME was delivered by The Hunt Museum and the Traveller Health Advocacy Agency with funding from Limerick City and County Council and the HSE.
- Wednesday June 7th, 1pm:
Lecture by Sindy Joyce, a PhD student with the Department of Sociology, UL, entitled ‘Traveller ethnicity: reclaiming our identify and culture post-recognition‘
