Art Now: John Shinnors Selects

November 2004

Curated by John Shinnors 'Art Now' is an exciting journey representing the work of Ireland's leading contemporary visual artists. Including works by Brian Bourke, William Crozier, Conor Fallon, Mary Lohan, Sean McSweeney, John Shinnors and Nancy Wynne Jones the exhibition represents the work of the most distinguished artists practicing in Ireland today. Through landscape, abstraction, and participation work the exhibits reflect the diversity and vitality of contemporary Irish culture. All have exhibited widely in international and national solo and group exhibitions and their work is popular amongst collectors, both in Ireland and abroad.

The exhibition is organized by the Hunt Museum in collaboration with the Taylor Galleries, Dublin and represents a new venture for both. Virginia Teehan, Director of the Hunt Museum, said of this exhibition "The Museum is continuing its practice of bringing work of international standing to local audiences. With the help of John Shinnors and the Taylor Galleries we are able to bring to the Mid West examples of the best of contemporary Irish art. It is very exciting for us here and we are privileged to be able to display such innovative works here at the Museum". Ms Teehan also said, "As all the works are for sale this exhibition will bring the commercial elements of the Museum's work to a new standard of excellence. Many of the works included in this exhibition are in great demand by collectors, particularly those collectors based outside Ireland and interested in contemporary Irish art". Interestingly, while The Hunt Museum is hosting this exhibition, Glór in Ennis has a wonderful exhibition of contemporary Irish artists, selected by Clare artist, Lorraine Wall.

The exhibition at The Hunt Museum is open to the public from Friday November 12th and continues until 30th November, 10am to 5pm daily. All works are for sale.
