Michael Collins is a Limerick native currently living and working between Ireland and Spain. He has been signing his paintings as Miceál Ó Coileáin since his first exhibition in Barcelona in 1979. This strategy was to prevent the Spanish Press mistaking him as “un pintor ingles”. After a period teaching in Belvedere College, Dublin Michael set up his studio in Barcelona where he continues to live and paint alternating his time between Barcelona and Ireland.
His work has been exhibited in Limerick at the Belltable Arts Centre, City Hall, Dolmen Gallery and in the Kennedy Gallery, Dublin. Elsewhere Michael’s work has been exhibited at the Real Circulo de Bellas Artes, Barcelona and La Cova del Drac, Barcelona.
Group shows in which Michael has shown work include the Kennedy Gallery, First “Remember Jim Kemmy” exhibition, Royal
Hibernian Academy, Dublin, Wyvern Gallery, Dublin, Cercle de Artistes de Cataluna, Real Circulo de Bellas Artes de Barcelona.
Many of his paintings depict scenes of Limerick City and many of its well known characters and his art graces many private and public collections.
