Yvonne Locke is a Fine Artist, a native of Limerick, now living in Cratloe, Co. Clare. She graduated with an Honours Degree in Fine Art from Limerick College of Art and Design. She shares her time between her studio at home and The Limerick Printmakers Studio. Yvonne uses mixed media. In Limerick printmakers she produces mainly abstract work using combinations of printmaking processes, while in her studio she works mainly with representative imagery to create paintings.
In recent years she received a commission to carry out the artwork for the new Renal Department at Limerick University Hospital and subsequently was asked to expand the project to the A & E department.
Her most recent work was shown in Santander Spain this year taking part in the “Encounter Exhibition”.
Nature and organic forms inspire Yvonne’s work. Childhood memories of walks in woodland areas around Limerick and Clare with her late father and summers spent in Derrynane, Co. Kerry over the past 30 years with her family. The imagery in this current work is from Cratloe Woods. Yvonne’s older work repeatedly uses the narrative of the forest, exploring its diversity and iconic imagery.
One common thread in all of Yvonne’s work is her use and application of colour. She purposely layers bright colours to draw the eye while using it to disguise a melancholy, coded subject matter and narrative in her paintings.
