Punch ladle
Description
A silver punch ladle with a plain bowl and a turned wooden handle. It has a Charles II St Patrick coin, possibly a farthing, c. 1674, inset in the base. The coin bears an image of St Patrick standing on a snake; in the background can be seen a cathedral, perhaps Armagh Cathedral. The other side of the coin shows King David kneeling while playing a harp. The inscription is Floreat Rex. This coin is probably one of the St Patricks Money coins which were issued in 1674 though little is known of the circumstances of the issue.
