Ivory panel or plaque

Description

An ivory panel or plaque showing a recumbent Virgin on a bed with the Infant Jesus at her side in swaddling clothes and the ox and the ass looking on with a small animal in the right-hand corner. It is perforated on the left-hand side of the panel in the centre.

Doran in the 'North Munster Antiquarian Journal (Studia in Memoriam John Hunt),' (Volume XX, 1978), which describes object; photocopy of extracts from two different volumes of publication by Raymond Koechlin entitled 'Les Ivoires Gothiques Français' (Auguste Picard, 1923). Contain description and image of Nativity scene in the collection of Albert Maignan, Paris.
