Description

A plate or serving-dish in brass. It is Nuremberg ware with a scene in the centre which depicts the fall of Adam and Eve. This is surrounded by an inscription and foliate decoration.

Archival information

File of material relating to Nuremberg brass ware. Includes object description sheet which includes sketch of object (date unspecified). Mentions Craggaunowen Castle, county Clare, and it is probable object was displayed there; photocopy of extract from a Sothebys, Zurich, catalogue of sale in German (c. 3 April 1981) which includes image and description of similar object. Annotation on the object description sheet in hand of Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, states that scenes depicted in present object and that published in the Sothebys catalogue look identical, as far as he can establish. Questions if objects might be from same workshop.
