Description

A pointed oval seal matrix in bronze showing a figure with an inscription around the edge. The figure carries a builders square above a shield. It is uncertain whether this is a medieval original or modern copy.

Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); incomplete photocopy of note (date unspecified) from John Cherry to Neil Stratford. Makes descriptive remarks about matrix. Writes that it shows a saint holding a builders square and that this object probably indicates Saint Thomas, Saint Jude, Saint Matthew or Saint Joseph. Thinks that the seal is continental and that he is not convinced the object is genuinely medieval.
