Corpus (crucifix figure)

Description

A crucifix figure in bronze with gilt. The head leans forward with the hands outstretched. The feet are side by side and resting on a suppedaneum. The loin-cloth is knotted to the right from where folds radiate out.

File of material relating to a bronze crucifix figure. Includes photocopy of object description sheet including sketch of object (date unspecified); photocopy of photograph of object (date unspecified); photocopy of extract from a Christies catalogue of sale (c. 7 May 1956) which refers to an auction of the property of S.E. Lucas, esquire. Annotation in Hollands hand indicates descriptions of two figures of Christ, one of which may be the present object. Also on the catalogue of sale are contemporary annotations in the hand of John Hunt, Senior. Several of the items described are marked with the letter 'H,' suggesting perhaps that Hunt purchased them.
