Developed Flat Axe

Description

A flat bronze axehead with straight sides and a widely splayed cutting edge. It is decorated on one face with herring-bone decoration and short incised lines.

Includes photocopy of object description sheet which includes sketch of object (date unspecified); photocopy of photograph of object (date unspecified); transcription of text of label used to describe the axehead in foundation building display (c. 1996); photocopy of extract from paper entitled 'The Hunt Museum' by Patrick F. Doran published in the 'North Munster Antiquarian Journal (Studia in Memoriam John Hunt),' (Volume XX, 1978), which describes object. Both of these latter documents note that this object was found at Scrabo hill, county Down.
