Archival information

File of material relating to a painting of the head of a Venetian lady. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); printout of incomplete e-mail (24 June 2005) from Ruth Mulhern, Curator of Education and Access, Hunt Museum, to Flavio Boggi, University College, Cork, requesting any information he might be able to give on present object; in reply (4 July 2005) Boggi suggests contacting Doctor Catherine Whistler, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; copy of letter (2 September 2005) from Dorothy Redmond, provenance researcher, Hunt Museum, to Whistler, requesting any information she might be able to give about the painting; printout of e-mail in response (8 September 2005). Whistler writes that she does not recognise the image but it is her impression that it derives from Titian. Also, 'as a female type and a profile head she is rather close to one of the figures in the "Venus Blindfolding Venus" in the Galleria Borghese, Rome.' Suggests that Venetian attribution of painting may be correct.
