Description

A cloak pin in bronze with a polyhedral, decorated head with a small ring. Simple interlaced twin-link motifs occur on the pinhead.

File of material relating to a cloak pin. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); document (date unspecified) comprising sketches of various aspects of the pin. Photocopy of this document also present; card (date unspecified) containing comments made about object by Tom Fanning. Describes object as a 'pin with cross, kidney shaped ring pin.' Dates pin to the late tenth-early eleventh centuries and attributes its manufacture to an early Norse settlement in Dublin. Then, exported to a monastic site like Kells, county Kilkenny. Also comments that the pin had a cord like a safety pin, point going upwards; photocopy of card also present.
