Rock crystal bowl
Description
A bowl, probably Roman, in rock crystal, with later English medieval silver-gilt or bronze mounts on the foot, stem and rim. The decoration on the mounts follows the fluted pattern on the bowl. Roman rock crystal bowls which had been made into chalices are known from medieval times. This one may also have been used for liturgical purposes.
