Description

A brass bucket with a handle. It has a beaked front and a flat back and the body has a series of angled horizontal protrusions. This was used to hold holy water.

Mentions Craggaunowen Castle, county Clare, and likely that object was displayed there; accompanied by note (date unspecified) in hand of Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, which names object as a situla, or a bucket for holy water. Note suggests that this information is taken from a publication by the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore, Maryland; photocopy of extract from publication by Eric Turner entitled 'Brass: Victoria and Albert Museum' (Her Majestys Stationery Office, 1982). Contains descriptions and images of holy water buckets.
