Description

The bowl section of a maiolica jug in blue and gold lustre. It is decorated with vertical strips and floral decoration. The handle, spout and foot are missing. Italian, Deruta.

File of material relating to an Italian maiolica jar. Includes photocopy of object description sheet which includes sketch of object (date unspecified). Annotation in the hand of Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, states, 'cut-down at neck and foot from larger - presumably broken example'; printout from database (date unspecified) which describes the jar; two Hunt Museum object comment sheets (dates unspecified) which contain comments made about object by Timothy Wilson. Dates object to 1500-25 and attributes it to Deruta, Italy. Also, that it is possibly a cut down jug; photocopy of extract from publication by Wilson entitled 'Ceramic Art of the Italian Renaissance' (British Museum Publications, 1987). Comprises image and description of a Deruta jug.
