Iron serving-knife
Description
An iron serving knife with an ivory handle inlaid with thin sheets of amber. The handle is hexagonal in shape, broader at the top and tapering in at the blade end. The handle has three tiers of decoration; the first tier has a row of ivory and amber triangles which fit into each other. The amber triangles cover scrolled decoration which seem to be incised into a metal plate set behind. The ivory panels are set with amber discs. The central tier is decorated with alternating rectangles of ivory and amber with incised figures set behind amber panels. The bottom tier repeats the pattern of the top tier. This is part of a matching knife and fork set. Northern German.
