Galway Chalice

Description

A chalice in silver known as the Galway Chalice. This is a travelling chalice which can be dismantled into three parts: the bowl, the stem and the foot. The bowl and stem can fit into the foot which has an angular base and is incised with Christ on the cross. It has an octagonal-shaped foot engraved with a crucifix on a mount. The chalice has the mark of a Galway silversmith (E.G.) and the letters FTD are engraved at the foot of the cross. This chalice closely resembles the Elizabeth Forth Chalice, made for the Friars Minor of Galway, dated 1633.
