Provenance
File of material relating to two spirit barrels. Includes photocopy of object description sheet which includes sketches of objects (date unspecified). Notes that objects are Ireland; document which comprises photocopies of photographs of objects with handwritten descriptive notes. In relation to HCL 030, states that this barrel was made before Delamain took over Dublins delftware pottery. In relation to HCL 031, states that the landscape painted on it is by Peter Shee and that it is marked with the heraldic crest of the Molyneaux family, county Armagh (date unspecified); photocopies of extracts from two publications which describe HCL 031, one of which is Patrick F. Doran, '50 Treasures from the Hunt Collection' (Limerick: Hunt Museum Executive, 1993), the other is unidentified; Hunt Museum object comment sheet (18 January 1996) which contains remarks about HCL 030 by Peter Francis. Dates barrel to eighteenth-century Dublin, the pre-Delamain period which began in 1748; photocopy of incomplete letter (29 January 1996) from Peter Francis, Institute of Ireland Studies, Queens University of Belfast, to Mairead Dunlevy, National Museum of Ireland, and Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, commenting on several objects in the Hunt Museum. Francis also encloses photocopy of notes he made during his visit to the Museum. In relation to HCL 030, writes that it was probably made in Dublin but that there is no direct evidence to prove this; printout of database which contains descriptions of both objects (2 May 2000).
