Description

An ivory game-piece, probably a draughtsman, showing two animals, perhaps bears, among foliage with a huntsman. The scene is framed by a border of beads interrupted by four straps. Anglo-Saxon.

Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); extract and photocopy of same from Sothebys catalogue of sale (c. 5 December 1966) where the object is described as being formerly the property of Mrs M.A. Low-Beer; black and white photographs of the gamepiece (date unspecified); photocopy of extract from publication by John Beckwith, 'Ivory Carvings in Early Medieval England,' (London: Harvey, Miller and Medcalf, 1972) which describes the object.
