The Reiner Crucifix

Description

A corpus in bronze with traces of gilding. The figure of Christ has elongated arms with the nail still present in his right hand. The feet of figure are apart and resting on a rounded suppedaneum. The loin-cloth is long and knotted beside the right hip, from which fall long diagonal folds stretching across the front. The head is inclined forward and to right with the hair falling on the shoulders. The eyes are closed. This corpus is attributed to Reiner Von Huy/ Renier de Huy, who was active in the early twelfth century in Meuse valley region. Mosan.
