Rock crystal pendant

Description

A rock crystal pendant with gilded silver mounts. It is oval in shape with twisted silver mounts. There is a crucifix in silver on the crystal and a suspension loop and twisted ring at the top.

Provenance

File of material relating to a crystal crucifix pendant. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified). Information card states that object dates from the fifteenth century. Annotation suggests that the crystal might be earlier than the mounts; Hunt Museum object comment sheet (25 April 1996) containing comments made about object by John Cherry, British Museum. He dates object to the fifteenth-sixteenth centuries and states that it was worn as a charm; extract from exhibition catalogue in German (c. 1972) issued by the Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim, which describes present object. Transcription of entry from exhibition catalogue and image of object also present.
