File of material relating to a classical figure of a man in a custom-made case. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified). Reference to fact that information about object published in '50 Treasures from the Hunt Collection' (Limerick: Hunt Museum Executive, 1993) by Patrick Doran; photocopy of relevant extract from this publication is present. Doran writes that the figure is late Classical or Byzantine; also present are typescript notes of Dorans text (date unspecified); note (24 January 1996) initialled 'H.C' contains annotation in the hand of Fiona Davern, Registrar, Hunt Museum, which states that Dorans attribution of the object is doubted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The name of Howard Ricketts is also mentioned here; Hunt Museum object comment sheet (10 July 1996) containing comments made about object by Lindsay Allason-Jones, Museum of Antiquities, The University, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Questions if figure might be Roman; comments that 'baggy trousers' are barbarian costume and that the style of the figures hair is Roman; copy of letter (18 July 1996) from Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, to Allason-Jones, thanking her for her help and enclosing information relating to the present object; photocopy of facsimile (written 24 July 2000, sent 27 July 2000) from Doctor Lynda Mulvin, Department of the History of Art, University College Dublin, to Ciaran McGonigal, Director, Hunt Museum, requesting permission to examine present object with a view to including it in a forthcoming publication. Annotation by McGonigal gives permission for Mulvin to examine the object.
