Rock crystal bottle

Description

A rectangular rock crystal bottle with a tall narrow neck and a raised ridge running down the centre front. The bottle rest on two small rectangular feet. Islamic, possibly Fatimid.

Archival information

File of material relating to a rock crystal bottle. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified). States, 'It could be Fatimid, worn at shoulders'. Annotation in the hand of Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, states that this is a perfume or oil container and also mentions Egypt; note (24 January 1996) directs reader to 'See 1975 List p. 7'; Hunt Museum object comment sheet (27 June 1996) containing comments made about object by Hugh Tait, formerly of the British Museum. States that object is possibly not Fatimid rock crystal. Also noted on the comment sheet is, part of a later cross - arm portion or reliquary (relic container set in reliquary).'
