
Relief of man (St John the Baptist)
Description
A figure of a man, St John the Baptist, in walrus ivory. The figure is carved in relief and was attached to a larger object such as a shrine. St John the Baptist is shown standing, his right shoulder is bare and he is wearing a fur-fringed mantle. He holds a scroll in his left hand. The right hand is a replacement, the right foot is missing and the back is flat. There are two holes in the body for attachment. MG 028 B was attached to the same object but is by a different hand.
