Relief of man (St John the Baptist)

Description

A figure of a man, St John the Baptist, in walrus ivory. The figure is carved in relief and was attached to a larger object such as a shrine. St John the Baptist is shown standing and holding a scroll in his left hand. The back of the object is flat and there are two rivet holes, that indicate this figurine may have been attached to a larger object, possibly with MG 028 B. MG 028 B was attached to the same object but is by a different hand. German, Cologne.
