Provenance
File of material relating to a painting, 'Red Firs' by Roderic O Conor. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); two photocopies of extract from exhibition catalogue, 'The Ireland Impressionists: Ireland Artists in France and Belgium 1850-1914' (National Gallery of Ireland 1984) by Julian Campbell, which includes image and description of the painting; printout of e-mail or letter (c. May 2005) from Roy Johnston to Fiona Davern, Registrar, Hunt Museum, in relation to present object, 'Femme Bretonne' also by Roderic O Conor and 'The Monotype' by Paul Gauguin. He writes that the Hunts O Conor paintings cannot be identified in the Drouot catalogue of sale, the auction for which took place on 6-7 February 1956. Also however, in relation to the present object, Johnston writes that a stamp on it shows it was sold on 7 February 1956. Also, that from 1957 onwards, it appeared in several catalogues of Roland, Browse and Delbanco, and this firm must have bought the painting at this auction. However, Johnston has not found records linking Roland, Browse and Delbanco to the Hunt family.
