Rock Crystal Flask

Description

An oval rock-crystal flask with gold mounts on the rim and foot. The rock crystal has a scaled pattern. It may be Byzantine in origin, with the original neck removed. Possibly German.

Provenance

File of material relating to an oval goblet. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object. [From Alphonse Khan collection] (date unspecified); Hunt Museum object comment sheet (27 June 1996) containing remarks made by Hugh Tait, formerly of the British Museum. Comments that object might date from the first half of the seventeenth century and might be from the Miseroni workshop, Prague. Thinks that mounts date from the nineteenth century though and were not made in Prague.
