A brooch fragment in bronze. It may be the oval or shield-shaped part of an eagle brooch. It is inset with garnets and enamel. Visigothic.

File of material relating to a fragment of a brooch with garnets, in the shape of a shield. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); document compiled by Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum (22 May 1995) conveying information given by Susan Youngs, British Museum, about a number of objects in the Hunt Museum. In relation to the present object, she states that it is probably part of a Visigothic eagle brooch dating from the fifth-sixth centuries A.D.; photocopy of extract from [an exhibition catalogue] entitled 'Objects of Adornment: Five Thousand Years of Jewelry from the Walters Art Gallery, Baltimore' (date unspecified). Includes descriptions and images of two eagle fibulae; also present are partial transcriptions of the object descriptions in the Walters Art Gallery exhibition catalogue.
