Drug-jar (albarello)
Description
An Italian albarello or drug-jar, of waisted cylindrical shape. On the centre-front is a portrait of a man in an oval frame which is surrounded by foliated, scroll work and sgraffito in blue, yellow and white. Similar to CG 36A. These popular portrait pieces emphasize character rather than beauty. Sicilian, possibly Caltagirone.
