Corpus (crucifix figure)

Description

A bronze crucifix figure with the eyes open and the feet nailed together. There is a band or crown of thorns on the head and a short draped loin-cloth with flat pleating in front.

Provenance

File of material relating to a bronze crucifix figure. Includes photocopy of object description sheet including sketch of object (date unspecified). Attributed to fourteenth-century England; photocopy of photograph of object (date unspecified); Hunt Museum object comment sheet (30 December 1997) containing comments made about object by Doctor Colum Hourihane. States that this is a very good example. Comments that the drapery folds are unusual and are described as 'flat pleaty.'
