Archival information

File of material relating to a watchcock set comprising necklace, cufflinks and ring. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); note (c. September 1998) by Andrew Walton (address withheld), probably written during a visit to the Hunt Museum. Writes that the Museums caption describing the necklace states that it is made from the cogwheels of clocks. Walton disagrees with this and writes that it is made from the cocks of pocket-watches, probably taken from old verge watches; copy of letter (7 September 1998) from Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, to Walton, stating that the Museums descriptive label will be corrected; incomplete letter (date unspecified) from E.K. Watson, enclosing photocopies of extracts from unidentified publication which he says substantiates his comment that parts which hang down on the necklace are ornamental cocks; photocopies of extracts from unidentified publication (date unspecified) which contain images of watches.
