Manilla (bracelet currency)

Description

A bronze manilla which is penannular with a circular sectioned bar and expanded terminals. The terminals are circular with flat ends. The so-called bracelet currency was used in West Africa from the end of the 15th century to the mid-20th century AD. This one may have been exported from England to West Africa.
