File of material relating to a triptych. Includes photocopy of object description sheet which includes sketch of object (date unspecified). Mentions Craggaunowen Castle, county Clare, and probable that object was displayed there. Both object description sheet and annotation on it attribute the triptych to the Netherlands. Annotation also states that objects such as these were hung in side chapels; photocopies of photographs of object (date unspecified); sheet of colour photographs, and partial photocopy of same (4 August 1995), of present object and HCP 005; notes (date unspecified) conveying information given on object by Father Gregory Collins. It is also stated that Father Collins will publish a paper on the object in 'Studies.' In the notes, the religious symbolism of the triptych is interpreted; photocopy of image of centre panel of present object (date unspecified); letter (10 September 2002) from Elline von Monschaw, Assistant Conservator, National Gallery of Ireland, to Fiona Davern, Registrar, Hunt Museum, and a docent (name withheld), Hunt Museum, thanking them for x-rays and photographs. She has examined the x-rays and writes that the type of wood is clearly visible and shows some soft wood. The wings of the triptych and the top gable are not made of as good quality wood as the middle scene; transcription of talk by Grace Cantillon, docent, Hunt Museum (17 February 1998) entitled 'The Dutch Triptych'; also, transcription of a second lecture (4 April 2001) by Cantillon relating to the triptych; document containing photocopied image of present object with annotations and photocopied image of unidentified diptych, also with descriptive annotations (date unspecified); Hunt Museum object comment sheet (date unspecified) which contains comments made about object by Doctor Eileen Kane, Department of History of Art, University College Dublin. Describes the three scenes of the triptych; document (date unspecified) which contains a list of questions about the object, questioning for instance, the religious affiliations of Ludovicus Proost, whose signature is one of the panels of the triptych, information about his life and other works; photocopy of letter (28 May 1997) from Jérôme Aan de Wiel, Glenstal Abbey school, Murroe, County Limerick, to a docent (name withheld), Hunt Museum, giving his interpretation of the painting. Writes that there is both Roman Catholic and Protestant symbolism in the painting and that this may have done this purposefully, to reflect the strife that existed in the Netherlands in 1611, the year in which the painting was done; colour image (date unspecified) of painting from the studio of Lucas van Valkenborch entitled 'Market at Linz (Winter).' This image is taken from 'Life in the Tudor Age' (Readers Digest/Toucan, 1995) by Adam Nicholson; photocopy of extract from unidentified publication (date unspecified) which treats of the devil, Tutivillus. This publication may be entitled 'The Clerics as Audience' or this may be a chapter or section title.
