Urn (reproduction Roman style)

Description

A silver urn based on a Roman original. The body has two handles and is decorated with leaves and berries in relief. The foot is decorated with small circles arranged in a ring. English, Victorian, in Roman style.

Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); note (date unspecified) containing telephone number of Michael Vickers, Ashmolean Museum; photocopy of extract from the 'Journal of the Walters Art Gallery,' Baltimore, Maryland (c. 1943) which shows image of an item described as 'Silver Cup Boscoreale Before 79 A.D. (after de Villefosse).' Annotation questions if this cup might be similar to the present object; photocopy of extract from a catalogue of sale (c. 13-14 November 1979) issued by Sothebys, Zurich, which contains description and image of similar object.
