Crucifix figure

Description

An ivory corpus with the arms and lower legs missing. It shows Christ with his eyes closed and his head lowered towards his right shoulder. The loin-cloth is knotted to the right and is parted above the left knee. The beard, hair and loin-cloth are gilded on a red ground and trace of red can still be seen on the wounds in the side of Christ. This is a high quality piece and may have been commissioned rather than being the product of a workshop.
