File of material relating to a monotype, 'Te Nave, Nave Fenua' by Paul Gauguin. Includes photocopy of information card with photocopy of image of object (date unspecified); photocopies of extracts from 'Paul Gauguin: Monotypes' by Richard S. Field, published on the occasion of exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (c. 1973). Includes image and description of present object, which was exhibited. It states, 'Comparison with this monotypes counterpart in Boston reveals that Gauguin's cognates are hand copies and not second impressions retouched and strengthened.' Also present are image and description of the Boston counterpart; memorandum (date unspecified) from the docents, Hunt Museum, to the Director, Hunt Museum, relating to the method of creating monotypes; photocopy of extract from '50 Treasures from the Hunt Collection' (Limerick: Hunt Museum Executive, 1993) by Patrick Doran in which the monotype is described; typescript transcription of Dorans published comments also present; two photocopies of extract from unidentified exhibition catalogue in French (date unspecified) which includes image and description of present object letter (8 January 1973) from Richard S. Field, Philadelphia Museum of Art, to John Hunt, Senior, and Gertrude Hunt, relating to the transportation of the monotype to Philadelphia for exhibition; letter, and photocopy thereof (12 April 1973), from Kneeland McNulty, Curator of Prints and Drawings, Philadelphia Museum of Art, to John Hunt, Senior, and Gertrude Hunt, informing them that the backing on the monotype slipped a few inches while on exhibition. Damage has been corrected; form (6 March 1973) issued by the Philadelphia Museum of Art which states that the monotype has an insurance value of £2,000; letter (27 January 1987) from Peter Zegers, Visiting Curator, Department of Prints and Drawings, The Art Institute of Chicago, to John Hunt, Junior, informing him of a forthcoming exhibition of Gauguin works to be organised by his institution, the union des muses nationaux, Paris, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington. Requests permission to examine the Hunt monotype; second letter from Zegers to John Hunt, Junior (2 March 1987) thanking him for his family's participation in the forthcoming exhibition; routine letters relating to the organisation of this exhibition and transportation of the monotype (16 April 1987-6 March 1989); photocopy of extract from unidentified publication with images of 'Te Nave Nave Fenua' (date unspecified).
