Pyx

Description

A pyx of rock crystal with heavily copper-gilt mounts. It is six-sided with a hinged lid and circular base. There are decorated gilt mounts at the bottom and rim and on the lid rim. There is a crucifix set in the centre of the lid. A pyx is a vessel in which consecrated bread is kept. Probably Venetian.
