Axehead

Description

A shale axehead, with asymmetrical faces and a gently curved asymmetrical edge. The left side is narrow, irregular and flattened and the right side rounded and flattened. The edge is very sharp with two very minor chips. The blade is well ground and polished, the faces are irregular due to medium and large remnant flake scars but they are ground and polished in the centre. The butt is damaged in the centre. The axe has an oval cross-section with flattened sides. The axehead was found at Patrickswell, Co. Limerick.
