Description

A Lusterweibchen (chandelier) in wood. A demi-figure of an angel (mermaid?) with a fish tail and antlers. it is polychromed with lights on the antlers and held in the hands of the figure. South German.

File of material relating to an object described as a chandelier or luesterweibchen. Includes photocopy of object description sheet including sketch of object (date unspecified). Refers to Craggaunowen Castle, county Clare, and object was probably displayed there for a period of time. Photocopy of photograph of object on verso; Hunt Museum collection survey form (4 December 1996); letter (8 October 1997) from Gwendoline R. Fife, care of Mary McGrath, Conservation Studio, Newbridge, county Kildare, to Michael Holland, Registrar, Hunt Museum, suggesting treatment to suitably restore the object. States that the original colour used to paint the figures arms has not been detected. Encloses colour photographs showing object prior to treatment (dated 15 October 1997 in Hollands hand). Annotation on letter (15 October 1997) in Hollands hand outlines treatment carried out.
