Jug (of a chemist / apothecary)

Description

A silver jug of a chemist or apothecary. It is conical in shape with a plain triangular spout and strap handle with scrolled ends. It has a broad flat foot and a welded seam visible down the side. It is decorated with an incised floral design of peonies on one side. On the other side of the jug there is a scene showing a man pouring water from a jug similar to this one over the head of a kneeling boy. Behind them there is a wall with shelves, on which there are beakers, phials, jars, boxes and other containers. There are two marks, a D in a round punch and a conjoined KF (the K is reversed) set in a shield. Germany, Dresden.
