Maiolica jar

Description

A maiolica jar with spout and handle and a decorative twisted-wire effect between the neck and the spout. It has an everted rim and a narrow, round foot. The body is decorated, in blue, yellow, black and white glaze and inscribed: AAs ROSATI, below the spout and the date 1544. The back is white with blue scrolled decoration. It is decorated with troffei (trophies) and possibly contained rosewater. Italian, Castel Durante.
