Zapotec (?) Figurine Fragment

Description

This ceramic figurine fragment may originate from the Mesoamerican Zapotec culture of the Valley of Oaxaca, who created ‘ancestor figures’ or offering vessels, often found in burial tombs. Complete Zapotec figurines depict similar characteristics as seen here, such as the headdress and spool earrings. Press molding techniques for creating ceramic figurines were used by some cultures, such as Teotihuacan, that were influenced by Zapotec culture.
