We are going to take down the railings around the Hunt Museum and create a public urban garden in the heart of Limerick city. This is an open invitation for a Garden Designer to design the new space in collaboration with us and the community. The prize for the winning designer is the full cost of delivering the garden, including design fees.

The Hunt Museum has been housed in the 18th century Palladian Georgian Custom House in Limerick City since February 1997. The museum exhibits one of Ireland’s greatest private collections of Art and Antiquities, dating from the Neolithic Period to the 20th century. Generously donated by John and Gertrude Hunt to the people of Ireland.

We will place some large scale replicated museum objects in a newly designed, open garden.

The Garden needs to be easily maintained and accessible to all, designed with the community’s ideas and thoughts in mind. You will need to find space for the Museum in the Garden, to include our Garden Chess Set & 4 or 5 sculptures of museum objects.

Interested applicants are asked to submit their concepts online, up to five finalists will then pitch their complete plan with budgets to our judging panel in March 2020. Our judges include Helen O’Donnell, Team Limerick Cleanup, Jill Cousins, CEO & Director of the Hunt Museum, Jim Prior, Men’s Shed, and Des Kingston, award winning garden designer, and Michael Sheehan, Park Superintendent Limerick City and County Council. The closing date is 26 February 2020.
