About the Artist
AJ is an American-born, Limerick-based potter. They take a dual approach to their studio practice – their work consists of both functional dishware in warm earth tones as well as more experimental art installations that examine the materiality of white, unglazed porcelain. The piece you see here is one small part of their current ongoing degree work titled “In Pursuit of Perfection*”, the whole of which will debut at LSAD’s annual Grad Show this June. This body of work examines their queer experiences through a traditionalist approach to wheel throwing and the translucent properties of finely-thrown, high-fired porcelain. The work is intended to be viewed with light and shadow as key components of the experience, as seen in the photos provided.
