‘Accumulation’ is a study of a section of heavily oxidised metal sheeting. Upon its original installation, this steel surface would have been a dull, unmemorable, metallic grey. But after years of wear and tear and exposure to the elements, the surface has become chipped and pitted; layers of rust and degradation have built up to form a far more interesting appearance than the formerly clean, smooth, finished metal. It would not have seemed possible for that original, flat, faintly shimmering surface to produce such a range of oranges, purples, yellows, and blues. Like the layers of a print, the events that have ravaged the steel over time have built up to form this intricate surface pattern.
