The Hunt Museum and Midwest ARIES are pleased to announce the return of their Creativity for Wellbeing programme.

Session Format and Activities:

Part I – 11.00am to 12.40pm

This will be facilitated by Midwest ARIES and uses group discussion to help participants to

  • Develop a wider understanding of what creativity is
  • Understand how creativity benefits personal wellbeing and
  • Find simple ways to weave creativity into the everyday.

Venue for Part I is the Hunt Museum, Captains’ Room, on Floor 1

Break – 12.40pm to 1pm

(light refreshments will be served but please feel free to bring a snack)

Part II – 1pm to 2.15pm

Part II is facilitated by Hunt Museum staff, often in collaboration with local artists. It provides participants with opportunities to experience the wellbeing benefits of hands-on creativity. Art activities are always inspired by objects and artworks in the Hunt Museum Collection. A new art activity is developed for every session. Participants are encouraged to experiment and enjoy the process of making art rather than focusing on the final outcome.

Creative Activities:

Thursday, May 8th 2025

The creative activity in Part II of this session will be cyanotype printing, a simple photographic printmaking process which harnesses the power of the sun.

During it participants will learn how to make special light sensitive paper. Using natural materials, such as flowers and leaves, found in the museum Garden, they will then create a unique composition on top of it. Following this, they will place it in the sun or under a strong artificial light, so the cyanotype magic can happen.

Socially engaged artist, Chelsea Canavan, will lead this creative arts session. She has more than 12 years of experience in facilitating participatory arts with individuals and groups, helping them to explore their creative voice and to make art on themes such as belonging and spaces for inclusivity.

Two cyanotype prints of wildflowers on blue paper, displayed on a wooden board next to real wildflowers. The image conveys a natural, artistic vibe.
A cyanotype print on wood shows white silhouettes of grass and flowers against a vivid blue background, framed by real dried plants.
Leaves and herbs are arranged on a white paper with a blue watercolour background, resting on a wooden surface. The scene is natural and artistic.
