Shape the Clay

The new Hunt Museum Studios will host a Clay through the Ages special for Heritage Week. It will see participants construct bells in air drying clay, decorated with medieval forms found in the collection using coloured slip. The workshop will start with a guided tour of the Hunt Museum’s ceramic art to travel through time and learn how clay was used throughout history. The tour will explore a variety of techniques used to make and decorate clay based objects from a range of time periods. Participants will learn about development of technologies and styles over time and how this has influenced how ceramic objects are made, used, kept and loved. Participants will then connect to our medieval handbells on display in the Summer exhibition – The Artefacts Project and create and decorate their own bell.
