The Annual Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) 2nd Year Students Exhibition will open on Thursday, 16 April 2026.
This Fine Art project provides the opportunity for Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) Painting students to actively engage and respond to the Hunt Museums important collection, which includes over 2,500 works of Art, including Picasso, Giacometti, Gauguin and Renoir as well as vitrines full of curious artefacts.
Each Year a diverse range of ideas and concepts emerge from this collaborative process, not only regarding the actual objects and paintings on view but also the display methods used by the Hunt.
For this Year’s Exhibition the brief is to interpret the collection under the broad idea of Fréamhacha meaning to take root and how it relates to contemporary issues and contexts.

About To Take Root / Fréamhacha
Artists throughout history have investigated and explored diverse subjects and contexts and in today’s world of turmoil and changes ideas around what it means to have roots or to take root have become very pertinent to how contemporary artists create and engage with our changing world.
The work created by the Painting students convey a sense of compassion and engagement with the facts of our everyday life and the textures of the lived experience. The Hunt Museum becomes a generator of ideas for the students and this year the painted panels and posters communicate relevant issues related to friendship, family, animal welfare, folklore, mass consumption, gender, the absurd, nationality, religion, dreams, and the natural world.
All the panels are exhibited in a collective grid format that reveals a sense of energy and makes visible the dynamic and diverse utilisation of composition, colour, motifs and figuration by the Year 2 Painting students.
Take a piece of the exhibition home, all panels and posters are available for purchase, but availability is limited.
