Anna Gormley is a visual artist living and making work in Limerick, Ireland. Currently a member of Wickham street studios, Limerick. She received her BA in fine art painting from the Limerick school of Art and Design in 2018, graduating with a first class honours. Anna’s work spans across expanded painting, drawing and prose. Her work has previously been included in exhibitions at K-Fest Arts Festival and The Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon. Anna makes expanded paintings that explore light, colour and transparency. Her work explores the boundaries between surfaces, and the boundaries between the real and imagined. She constructs a narrative from OS maps, blind drawing and remembered memories of touch. Through the physical process of painting and speculative time in the studio imagined narratives and landscapes emerge. Using ecology as a framework, she abstractly interprets formal structures of geography and topography. Exploring landscape through material investigation, inventing new processes outside of traditional painting mediums that can encompass; PVA glue, sheets of acetate, glass and methods of lighting. Study on Dolmons III is part of a series of oil paintings on oil paper that explores the artist’s relationship with geography and geology. Anna creates micro worlds taking inspiration from the landscape of The Burren and Megalithic structures.
